About Pavilion

Pavilion is on a mission to improve the lives of all Americans by making public procurement work better. Public agencies spend $2 trillion annually on everything from school buses to software. But connecting those agencies with the right businesses can take months and cost taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars or more. Our marketplace matches government buyers with pre-qualified suppliers, giving public servants modern, 100% free tools to deliver better services and helping more businesses participate in solving public problems.

About this role

As a Business Development Associate, you'll play a critical role in scaling our paid offering with businesses that serve the public sector. You'll report directly to the CEO, which means unusual visibility into how the company runs, direct mentorship, and a fast path to more responsibility. You'll work closely with a small team of one other Business Development Associate, Account Executives, Customer Success, and Analytics to build pipeline, engage thoughtfully with potential customers, and help more businesses get started on Pavilion.

You'll spend most of your time talking with prospective customers to expand top-of-funnel opportunities. Over time, we'll help you grow into pitching and closing customers of your own, starting with smaller accounts. You'll be external-facing from day one while also learning how the core business operates from the inside.

If you're excited to build, a strong communicator, and energized by helping others, this role is for you.

Responsibilities

  • Execute outbound outreach across phone, email, LinkedIn, and more
  • Research and identify prospective customers
  • Respond to and qualify inbound leads
  • Build and iterate on a repeatable process to improve your own workflow and support a growing team
  • Collaborate with Sales and Product teams to refine messaging and targeting
  • Grow into managing the full sales cycle to close with smaller accounts
  • Contribute to our sales strategy and product development as we expand to more customer segments

Requirements

  • An entrepreneurial ownership mentality. You're an owner at heart: you take responsibility for outcomes, not just inputs.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and iterate at high velocity. You're a strong problem-solver with a growth mindset. You're not afraid to get into the weeds to execute, and you can also step back and learn from patterns to up-level your work. You're excited to push yourself to grow and learn new things quickly.
  • Comfort with outbound outreach and handling objections. You're a skilled communicator who enjoys talking with people, building new relationships, and learning from conversations.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
